$50,000, plus $50,000 match - Palliative care in the
hospital's skilled nursing facilities
his grant continues to fund Hazel Hawkins' Palliative Care
program for which Hospice Foundation provided seed funding
in 2003. The ability to offer different kids of choices in
end-of-life care is important to ensuring that people
receive the most appropriate care based on their needs and
desires. Palliative care is an emerging specialty in
hospitals and other inpatient settings. It combines pain and symptom management and
emotional support with aggressive medical interventions,
such as chemotherapy, that may still offer the patient hope
for a cure. This grant funds Hazel Hawkins program so that
there are a range of choices available for San Benito County
residents. The grant includes a match requirement in
which Hazel Hawkins will also raise $50,000 in support of
its palliative care program. When the match is met,
Hospice Foundation funds the additional $50,000.
