What
is the difference between Hospice Foundation and Hospice of
the Central Coast?
ospice
Foundation is an independent, non-profit fundraising and
grant-making organization. Hospice of the Central Coast is a
home-based hospice care service that is owned and operated
by Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula. Hospice
Foundation is not a provider of hospice care. Our mission is
to support, through our grant-making program, the care and
services. It does this by raising funds in the community
throughout the year and receiving donations in the form of
memorial gifts, bequests or in response to various direct
mail appeals. These funds then become the source of the
grants given each year to a number of local hospice care
providers and other organizations providing end-of-life care
services, such as bereavement counseling.

Are
there other hospice care providers in Monterey and San Benito
counties? It seems confusing.
es, it can be confusing. In Monterey and San Benito
counties, there are several and they all use the word
“hospice” in their names.
CHOMP’s program, Hospice of the Central Coast, was
acquired by CHOMP in 1997 and is now incorporated into its
hospital system of services.
Central Coast
Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice, Inc. added
its hospice services in 1998. As the oldest home health care
agency in the region, the addition of its hospice service
now enables the organization to be a full-service provider
of care.
Hospice Caring Project is based in Aptos but provides most
of the hospice care services the northern Monterey County
communities of Aromas, Pajaro, and Los Lomas.
Heartland Hospice is another provider of care in the
region, with offices and staffs serving Santa Cruz, Monterey
and San Benito counties.
All of these organizations are Medicare-certified, which
means that they can provide services under the Medicare
Hospice Benefit. They all have professional staffs and
trained volunteers. The first three are non-profits and, as
such, are eligible to apply for grants from Hospice
Foundation.

Can
I give a donation to support Westland House through Hospice
Foundation?
es.
However, please keep in mind that Westland House is also a
post-surgical recovery facility so if your intention is to
support hospice services there, let us know that you would
like to restrict your donation for hospice care only at
Westland House. Hospice Foundation will ensure your
intentions.
Can
I support other organizations through Hospice Foundation?
es.
Simply let us know that you would like to restrict your gift
for that organization, or that special program you have in
mind. Hospice Foundation will ensure your intentions.
If
that is the case, then why would I give a donation through Hospice
Foundation instead of directly to the organization?
nd-of-life care touches us all at some time.
And, every family facing the challenges of life-threatening
illness, caregiving or loss has a multitude of
needs--emotional, physical, practical, spiritual.
No one service can do it all. It takes a network of
caring, compassionate services to help families through
their intense ordeal. Hospice Foundation understands
this and, as a donor, you do too. With your
support, you join other like-minded people in
your community who understand that comfort and care at the
end of life is vitally important to quality of life, for the
patient and for his or her family. To achieve this,
services may be coming from one provider or more, depending
upon the family's needs. Your donation to Hospice
Foundation can certainly be targeted
to support just one—your favorite—or it can become part of the
grants that fund many other end-of-life care specialties as well--all working
to create a network of compassionate care in your community. Through
Hospice Foundation, you have that option. So, either way you
choose to participate, you are supporting community needs
for comfort and care at the end of life.
