retired Brigadier General, Dr. Jerry Griffin was an emergency
physician in Europe, Kosovo and Iraq from 2002 to 2005. He
co-authored a book with Pam Umann, MSW, called The Last Day
of Winter, Secrets of the Seasons of Dying (Iuniverse,
2005), which poignantly addresses end-of-life issues. Dr.
Griffin received his Doctor of Pharmacy from the University
of the Pacific in Stockton in 1971. He received his Doctor
of Medicine in 1977 from the University of Juarez/Case
Western University, Cleveland, Ohio, where he also interned.
He completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at Brooke
Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. He was medical
director for Hospice of the Central Coast from 1987 to 1997,
and for VNA Hospice from 1997 to 2002. He is in private
practice and remains an attending physician at Salinas
Valley Memorial Hospital & Health System. He is a resident
of Pacific Grove and joined the Hospice Foundation board in
2006.
